Strategy
We drove strategy and product development for a large financial services company from 1996 through 2004. We also own and run our own online business. We have seen the importance of clear and attainable business and project goals regardless of the size of an enterprise.
For small businesses and sole proprietors
Take advantage of our years of experience in web strategy and product development. You do not just want a website, you want technology that makes sense, supports your objectives and makes your life easier. We have been designing productivity solutions for large companies. Now we bring this know-how to the smaller end of the market as well.
Often we see start-ups that are ready to hire a web developer before they have fully vetted their business strategy. We have seen many examples of people developing sites that have incorrectly assessed the market for their ideas or that have unrealistic expectations. We can help to ensure that you are investing your budget wisely.
A recent example: Three very bright and enterprising ladies had a great idea about bringing competition information and rankings to amateur ballroom dancers. We were approached to build the site. However, with just a few questions, we revealed that the challenge of acquiring and maintaining thousands of records needed to be resolved before the first round of project definition should begin. With some investigation they determined that their project would require more effort than they were willing to invest at this time. The end result, no project for us, but the right solution for the investors!
For medium to large businesses
Take advantage of a neutral, unbiased viewpoint. What makes the strategy component of a project challenging for large companies? One or more of the following situations may apply:
- multiple stakeholders with conflicting goals and requirements
- lack of internal resources with time to devote to the project
- over-investment in a current direction
We have years of experience of quickly assessing requirements, bringing diverse viewpoints together, and selling ideas to the internal audience. Our strength is in the creation of practical solutions that work within your structure.
Example: In the early days of the web, we quickly realized that non-techies needed to be able to update and maintain content. We assessed content management packages and determined that none of the existing packages met our requirements. We designed a system that gives total control of content and client setup to non-technical content experts. The system was designed in 1997 with upgrades added in 2001. It is still in use today and continues to meet the needs of the business.
